A good way to deal with stress and complex emotions/thoughts is through abstract art! That's one of the best aspects about abstract art. You can literally throw paint against a canvas as strong as you can until you're tired and sore, let the paint dry and TADA! Abstract art! (That's also a recommended therapy that I suggest to many people to deal with depression, anxiety and so forth😂)
During 2020 I participated in an online art challenge called The Gloomy Challenge where we were given set colors (of course, gloomy colors😂) and that was it (if I remember, but who knows!😂). Like I said, abstract is a good art therapy method, so I used the then current events to inspire the three individual work that I submitted. The only real challenge, for me at least, was that I decided these would become digital illustrations, instead of traditional abstracts. While I'm no stranger to digital art, digital abstract art was a different story😂. Be random in a digital program seemed near impossible to me, not to mention dangerous (I can't afford to anger my computer and have it shut down for good out of spite!😂)! Luckily I've been a fan of Clip Studio Paint (CSP) ever since Adobe decided it would go (over priced) subscription😂. It's like every Adobe program (for the most part) rolled up into one set priced (when I purchased it, anyway😂) program.
The abandoned city is meant to symbolize the human mind itself and how, during that time and ever since, reason and logic have pretty much been abandoned altogether. The muted peace sign, which is being stopped by the stop circle symbol, is also meant to symbolize that complete hinderance at any form of peace or even common ground. The mask, of course, represents the pandemic itself but, also, meant to indicate the avoidance of speaking out or even standing out in such times. Being able to implement metaphors, symbols and hidden meanings throughout a piece while also going crazy random is the secret weapon of abstract art for sure!😂
Well MMP Fans, that is The Abandoned City. I hope you liked this intricate abstract work of digital art! Whether it's good or not, I'll never know, mostly because I still don't know what is good abstract art and what isn't.😂 I recommend giving abstract a try, if you haven't already, especially if your mental health is being, well, MeNtAl 😂. If you do decide to give abstract a try, tag me on social media so I can see YOUR creations! And please feel free to let me know YOUR thoughts on my Abandoned City abstract.
